Cromwell Signature
Inspired by the Portrait of Thomas Cromwell by Hans Holbein the Younger
“Holbein paintings have always intrigued me as an artist-goldsmith because of the apparent fine jewelry rendering skill that he possessed. Compared to other master painters I could recognize his gold, pearl, and gemstone rendering techniques that jewelers are taught in jewelry school. Holbein’s two sons were goldsmiths (he apprenticed his son Phillip to Basel born goldsmith Jacob David in Paris). Holbein also had a collaboration with Cornelius Hayes, a master goldsmith of that era. I have handled many of these types of original artifacts from antiquity and understand that making things lighter and cheaper was not an objective.” -Donna Distefano Thomas
Metal: Responsibly Sourced 22-karat Gold / Sterling Silver
Method: Classical Goldsmithing
Primary Stone: Nephrite
Technical Specs: 22-karat yellow gold, round cabochon nephrite.
